December photo: panoramic view of Ortiguera, Asturias

I'd wanted to take a panoramic photograph of Ortiguera for some time, but I could never find the right moment. The opportunity arose during my participation in the Coaña Photo Marathon, where I decided to take the drone photos I had in mind. After obtaining the necessary permits from the authorities, I headed to the port of Ortiguera at dawn, hoping to find good light. Unfortunately, that day was overcast with sporadic drizzle. But I had to get it done that day, so I took advantage of a break in the rain, launched the drone, and took three vertical photos to compose this panorama.

Photo of November: dynamics in Rio Tinto

I was really looking forward to going back to Rio Tinto, a magical place to play with shapes and colors. We were there a few days after heavy rains and there were many puddles, so we played at finding dynamic, ephemeral shapes, based on nuances, lights, and shadows. This image is the result of that search.

October photo: abstraction on the beach

We were on a beach in the municipality of Coaña, Asturias, participating in a photographic rally, when I saw this curious rock. I really like abstractions, focusing on the details, so I spent some time studying the best composition to finally obtain this image. A few days later, during the award ceremony of the rally, I was very surprised -and grateful- to receive the first prize for this photograph.

Septembrer Photo: aurora

A spectacular aurora borealis enjoyed from Luleå, Sweden. The lens covers 180º diagonally, meaning the entire sky was covered by this colorful display.

August Photo: Incense in Vietnam

If you like photography and visit Vietnam, you can't miss the place where the incense sticks are made. These are very colorful images that, although they have been photographed thousands of times, never lose their charm. I wanted to show the woman placing the sticks, but with her hands hidden; and I wanted to show her face without her looking directly at it. I used a wide aperture to achieve a shallow depth of field and focus attention on the human figure.

July photo: Dry tree in the Dead Vlei desert, Namibia

To get this photo, we had to leave before dawn, arriving just before the sun illuminated the dunes. There were only two other people there at that time, so we were able to photograph calmly until the sun illuminated the entire scene. We had time to take photos with and without lighting in the dunes, from various angles. After taking several photos with my Panasonic m43 camera, it occurred to me to take one with my cell phone, to take advantage of its 48 MP sensor. I chose an isolated tree, with a slightly low vantage point. The result is really good, with amazing resolution and sharpness.

June Photo: Interior Design

Sometimes you find curious images in the most unexpected places: we were having breakfast in a traditional Japanese hotel when we saw this scene on one of the room's walls. They look like paintings, but they're actually openings in the paper walls that lead to a garden. It's a curious, minimalist, very Japanese scene.

January Photo: Kestrel searching for prey

We were walking along the coast of Asturias and saw this kestrel (Falco tinnunculus) perched on a fence while searching for prey in the nearby fields. It let us get very close, and we were able to take this portrait with a great background blur.
