August photo: swans in Hokkaido

One of the objectives of the trip to Hokkaido was to photograph the swans in flight, using a low shutter speed. It was very difficult because they flew very close and very fast, there were many specimens, and it was normal for the whole image to come out blurry. It was already late so the lake reflected the golden colors of the sunset.

July photo: Foxes playing in Hokkaido

It was a grey afternoon. It was snowing and the strong wind made the wind chill very low. From the bus we saw some foxes near the road and we approached slowly. We stopped to get a good look at them and then they started playing, offering us scenes like this one.

After the photo session we gladly accepted the hot tea that the guide offered us, as our fingers were already starting to freeze.

June Photo: Eagles in Hokkaido

Photographing eagles in Hokkaido is not easy: you have to get up in the early morning, board a boat in the bitter cold, and look for the eagles on the ice. As the light is scarce, you have to use very high ISO values if you want to freeze the action with high shutter speeds. Also, the boat moves, you never know where the eagles will come out, and you have other photographers around who are also looking for good images.

But all effort has its reward and this is one of the most interesting images of that day, which shows the fight for food between these two species of eagles.

May Photo:  musician

One spring day we stopped to eat at a restaurant in Cantabria on our way to Madrid, and on the terrace of that restaurant a musician was playing the sax. He played very well, and he made our stay very enjoyable. The lighting and environment were conducive to a good portrait so I asked his permission and took this photograph, which I then sent to him on WhatsApp.

April Photo:  flock of spoonbills

We were in the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve in Vizcaya, Basque Country, trying to take some bird photos, when a flock of spoonbills arrived right in front of our hide. Although they landed a little far away, we had the focus converter on the telephoto lens, so we were able to get a good image of the group of birds just as they arrived.
